Today in Johnson City History: November 3

Nov. 3, 1892: While shingling the new house of Dr. Toy on Roan Hill, roofers John Bayless and Jim Hughes had fallen about 20 feet when a scaffolding collapsed. Both men received serious injuries that would leave them laid up for some time.

Nov. 3, 1904: Dr. Falk and Mr. Tate recently had given an address on the evils of alcohol.

Nov. 3, 1978: The Charlie Daniels Band played at Freedom Hall Civic Center. Tickets were $6.

Nov. 3, 1979: Larry Gatlin appeared at Freedom Hall. More than 2,500 fans were present.

Nov. 3, 2006: Four costly first-half turnovers and Ooltewah’s two-pronged offensive attack led to an early exit for Science Hill from the TSSAA Class 5-A playoffs. Ooltewah totaled 440 yards in a 38-14 victory. It marked the third straight year the Hilltoppers lost in the first round.
